Franck Shanghai
Shanghai, China
Fine French cuisine and wines of distinction go hand in hand at Franck Shanghai, opened in 2007 as ‘Franck Bistrot’ in the city’s largely residential French concession by chef Franck Pécol. Pécol has since left China, but the eponymous restaurant lives on, thanks to teh French chef’s dedicated former team fighting to keep it open. You’ll still find the same daily changing specials – well-executed classics such as pâté de campagne, tartare de boeuf and blanquette de veau – chalked on the blackboard, , a flickering candle on each table and the convivial ambience that helped make the venue a local institution, along with an exemplary French-led wine list with organic and natural wines featuring prominently. Connoisseurs will be excited to sample some of the rare bottles held in the cellar, including little-seen vintages from the Loire, Champagne and Burgundy.
