Canton 8

Shanghai, China

Probably the world’s cheapest Michelin two-star restaurant, Canton 8 serves up traditional Cantonese cuisine and dim sum platters. Despite the stars, the restaurant feels casual, with intimate tables and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking its terrace. Simple dishes, such as the egg white fried rice with scallops, showcase the chef’s major culinary skill, while the more complex meats, such as pork belly or well-seasoned Cantonese Char Siu, only demonstrate this further. The short menu is updated regularly and while staff are attentive, this is not fine dining so guests can expect a more relaxed service.
